Details of Diabetes Type 1 Diet

People having diabetes type 1 are advised to eat healthy and do physical exercises. But people who are suffering from diabetes type 1 should eat some something more than just something “healthy”. These people should have a proper diabetes type 1 diet meant only for diabetes type 1 patients. The type 1 diabetes diet should be fixed and should be eat regularly at fixed times of the day.

Here I am listing some of the nutrients that directly influence the blood glucose level.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are mainly starchy foods such as cereals, pasta, bread, potatoes, rice etc. It is that nutrient which affects the blood glucose level the most. Carbohydrate when enters the body breaks down into glucose. This glucose is absorbed from the small intestine by the bloodstream and is transferred into the cells with the help of insulin. In people suffering from diabetes type 1 this insulin is not produced and hence the glucose can not be transferred into the cells and so the glucose gets stored in the blood stream. So the diabetes type 1 diet should be less in carbohydrates.

Proteins

Proteins also affect the blood glucose level of diabetes type 1 patients. Many people do not know this but often excess protein which is not needed by the body is transformed into glucose. It is done by the liver. So this means that the type 1 diabetes diet should not contain excess of protein or else that will also lead to the rise of blood glucose level.

Fats.

A diet rich in fat slows down the process of absorption of glucose from the small intestine thus it may slow down the rate of the rise of the blood glucose level. But fat is not advised in large quantities as it has other side effects.

Some myths that should be cleared

Most people think that sugar is a strict no-no for a diabetes type 1 patient. They think that diabetic patients should absolutely avoid sugar in their daily type 1 diabetes diet because they think it increases the blood glucose level at a rapid rate. But you should know that sugar is not the most effective blood glucose rising ingredient. Other carbohydrate rich ingredients like cereals or rice affect the blood glucose level.

Some other facts

If you are a diabetes type 1 patient you should always keep in mind that you should inject insulin into your body after every time you eat for the proper utilization of glucose. In diabetes type 1 patients the pancreas fails to produce insulin so artificially insulin should be injected to your body. It should be injected into the body immediately after the consumption of the food because the insulin should be present in the bloodstream when the food is broken down into glucose. The insulin should be injected in proper amounts because two less insulin can result increased blood glucose and too much insulin can result in fall in blood glucose level. So you should consider the quality of your diabetes type 1 diet but also the amount of your diet.
